LARGE CHANCAY TEXTILE FRAGMENT WITH BIRDS
This large and colorful Pre-Columbian fringed textile fragment (AJC112)was once part of an article of clothing, or perhaps a ground cloth. Measuring approximately 13” x 20” in size, the colors and images on the panel are in overall very good condition with some light stain, and a few small areas of unravel. Attributed to the Chancay horizon of coastal Peru, dating c.1100-1400AD, the fabric is backed on a contemporary piece of cloth for stability and could be inexpensively mounted to make an appealing display. A striking example of the ancient weaver’s art, it comes with a small display card, a map of Peru on which the Chancay area has been highlighted, and our certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
