Chimu Stirrup Vessel With Warrior Panels
This 9” tall burnished black-war stirrup vessel (AJC108) is attributed to the Chimu horizon of coastal Peru, c.1000-1400AD. In overall good condition but for a small, un-repaired probe hole on its side near the base and a lightly chipped and abraded rim, the vessel has four side panels encircling its body in each of which stands a helmeted warrior with right hand raised, and left grasping a long club that has one end resting on the ground. A small throne-like feature sits at the base of the spout where it attaches to the stirrup. The stirrup vessel comes with a small display card, a map of Peru highlighting the center of the Chimu area, and our certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
