| The Eye of Horus was considered to be one of most powerful symbols of ancient Egypt. Representing the eye lost by Horus in his battle with Seth to avenge the death of his father, Osiris, it was restored by Isis and called the “wadjet” or “healthy eye”. This example (AJC102) of that popular symbol was worn as a pectoral, possibly by a priest, and at 3 ¼” in length is of striking size. Molded from faience with a bluish green glaze, and perforated along its length for suspension, this impressive protective amulet probably dates into the Late Period, c.712-332BC. In overall good condition, with only a few minor nicks and small blemishes caused by lost glaze, a darkened patchy green area with rougher texture (seen in the photos at the top of the eye) appears to be the result of an ancient attempt to cover parts of the faience that did not glaze properly. From a local collector who purchased the piece years ago at the former All Nations Coin Shop on Colorado Boulevard in Denver as a museum deaccession, the ready-to-wear pectoral comes with a descriptive card and our guarantee of authenticity. Select or ask any question by referring to either the Trocadero Item Number (836817) in the upper left portion of this page, or to this item’s unique Inventory Number, AJC102 (as new items from this fine collection will be added shortly, you can view them all by typing the 3-letter code, AJC, into the search link on any page, and it will bring them to view). Note: if you would like to view an even larger number of our various listings, and at the same time limit your browsing time, try our popular ‘TWELVE different items on a single page format’ by simply spelling out the word TWELVE in the search box. That will quickly bring up all of our listings that have twelve different items on a page, each individually priced! And if you want to further refine the group, add one or two additional modifiers at the same time such as ‘Indian, Precolumbian, Stone, Pot, Gold, etc.’ All items in the groups of twelve that have been sold will be so noted on their individual photographs. | |||||||||
