| This 4 1/8” tall ancient glass bottle (RG30), known as an unguentarium, is attributed to the Roman period, c.100-300AD. Acquired in Cyprus in the earlier 20th century by the then US Ambassador to France, the late Walter Evans Edge, the very pale aqua bottle is intact and in excellent condition but coated on the inside with a thin layer of mud. The infolded lip has a small flaw that occurred during its manufacture. The cone shaped base makes this a very stable display piece. The moderately stained surface has a patchy iridescence. The last owner purchased the bottle from Edge’s estate in the 1960s. The bottle comes with a small display card and a certificate that both guarantees authenticity and incorporates a brief biography about Edge. | ||
