| This large, 13” wide prehistoric Indian bowl (GLC307) was found in New Mexico, identified as a Mimbres Black-on-White, dating c.975-1150AD, and is attributed to the Mogollon group. The prominent hourglass design that bisects the bowl is perforated by a typical Mimbres ‘kill’ hole. From the estate and personal collection of the late Gene Lang of Denver, he put the bowl together with minor repaint. The rim has three areas of restoration, the outside surface of which were never finished leaving a pattern caused by the masking tape that Gene used to back the filled areas (less than 5% of the total bowl and easy to finish if someone wanted). There is a minimal amount of restoration around the kill hole. The inside surfaces of the repaired areas were carefully painted to match the pre-existing black and white pigments. There are several very small unrestored rim nicks. Matching mirror image keyhole design elements can be seen on either side of the hourglass figure. This spectacular bowl comes with a small display card, a grapevine ring to set the bowl upon, a release certificate stating that the bowl was legally obtained and is not in violation of any laws, and a biographical sketch about Gene Lang. | ||||||
