| This 4 ¼” tall Pre-Columbian hammered sheet silver beaker (LFG413) is from the Tiwanaku area of Bolivia dating c.400-1200AD. In a graceful bi-conical shape, it was easy to grasp by the Tiahuanacan lord who once raised it to his lips after filling the beaker with the favored alcoholic chicha that was made from the fermentation of cornmeal. Had this chalice been constructed from beaten gold, its now moderately dented form could not have been any more improved, but the survival of the metal would have been perfect and brilliant. The silver, however, has darkened with oxidation and age, and 15-20% of its surface and base has been somewhat corroded from acidic ground waters that have caused a few eraser-sized holes, and a moderate number of pinholes that can generally only be seen when the beaker is back-lighted. From the collection of Lorenzo Fritz, former research anthropologist and primitive arts dealer, this beaker still provides an inexpensive example of Pre-Columbian metal work, and comes with a display card, a map showing the extent of the Tiahuanacan Empire, a biographical sketch of Lorenzo Fritz, and our certificate guaranteeing authenticity. NOTE: if you would like to view a large number of our various listings, and at the same time limit your browsing, try our ‘TWELVE different items on a single page format’ by simply spelling out the word TWELVE in the search box. That will quickly bring up all of our listings that have twelve different items on a page, each individually priced! And if you want to further refine the group, add one or two additional modifiers at the same time such as ‘Indian, Precolumbian, Stone, Pot, Gold, etc.’ Any item that has been sold will be so noted on its photograph. | |||||||||
