| The Dr. Allen Heflin collection continues to give...and give...and give!! This well arranged and balanced, glass-fronted, shadow box frame (AXH63) containing 121 prehistoric Indian arrowheads, all from the state of Louisiana, and keyed on its back to most of the counties where each of 111 points was found (Heflin apparently added 10 more points after completing this key). A highly decorative and authentic sampling of materials and points from a world known collection that would add to any setting, it includes points from the following counties: Avoyelles (5); Catahoula (1); Evangeline (1); Franklin (3); Jackson (40); St. Landry (58); Tangipahoa (1); and Unknown (12). In assembling this frame, the doc ‘cheated’ a little by including in that 121 total count, 14 points that he personally repaired with the addition of what appears to be a clayey material, colored in most cases and thus usually difficult to see (in the accompanying quadrant photos, I’ve marked each with a red ‘X’ in a yellow dot to make them immediately obvious). As Heflin did not sell anything from his collection, this was obviously done for esthetic reasons, and not with the intent to fool anyone, but it does drop the total count of untouched points to 107. Most of the artifacts are in good to very good condition, but as is typical, some have nicks and dings. A standard ruler has been placed along the right edge of the third photo (the one with the full panel out of the shadow box). Note also that the red-circled side-notch point in that full frame photo is also circled in each of the four quadrant photos for orientation (there is overlap of points along the boundaries of each of hte quads). Glued on with water-soluble glue, the points can be easily removed and the glue removed if desired, or if one falls off, the interior of the shadow box can be easily accessed for the purpose of re-gluing. The frame comes with a copy of the memorian to Heflin published in the Missouri Archaeologcal Society Quarterly in the late ‘90s, a map of Louisiana on which the counties represented in the frame have been high-lighted, and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity. For shipment, the frame will have packing behind the glass to keep any of the points from being shaken loose in transit. However, if they do, it would be an easy process to glue any back in its proper place by referring to the colored photo on the site. NOTE: if you would like to view a large number of our various listings, and at the same time limit your browsing, try our ‘TWELVE different items on a single page format’ by simply spelling out the word TWELVE in the search box. That will quickly bring up all of our listings that have twelve different items on a page, each individually priced! And if you want to further refine the group, add one or two additional modifiers at the same time such as ‘Indian, Precolumbian, Stone, Pot, Gold, etc.’ | ||||||||||||
