| The world-renowned Dr. Allen Heflin collection contained one of the largest assortments of Pre-Columbian ceramic pipes seen on the market in recent years. He found this one (AXH89) at the Aztec site of Cuautitlan, Mexico in July 1960 (so-marked on the bottom of the stem in black ink). An impressive 13” in length, with a 6 ½” tall bowl, the pipe was found in four pieces that were later glued together without any new material or paint being added to the pipe. This rare and spectacular piece, dating c.1300-1500AD, and perhaps the largest pipe in Heflin’s collection, is still in good enough condition to smoke! It comes with a small display card, a copy of the memoriam to Heflin published in the Missouri Archaeological Society Quarterly, a map of the Valley of Mexico showing both the location of Cuautitlan and the extent of the great lakes that filled the Valley at the time of the Spanish Conquest, and lastly, our certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
