| This grouping of 54 ‘slicks’ (i.e., wind-polished stones) and samples of nephrite jade and nephrite jade look-alikes was assembled over a period of some 40-50 years by Fenton Parke of Casper from the famed jade fields of south central Wyoming. Fent, well known during that same period for his extensive offerings of historical items and Indian artifacts found at the forts, ghost towns and trail sites of Wyoming and surrounding states, found most of his jade pieces in the Jeffrey City area both north of Green Mountain and south of it into the Red Desert. A few of the samples have been partially polished on a wheel to show their interior color, but most are in their original unpolished condition as found. As nephrite jade can be difficult to identify, it was necessary to determine the Specific Gravity for each of the pieces in Fent’s collection. Nephrite is generally stated to have a specific gravity range of 2.9 to 3.2, and any of the pieces that landed within that range are herein presented as jade. Of the 54 pieces that Fent collected, a total of 35 have specific gravities falling within the nephrite jade range (gram weight and specific gravity for those pieces are shown in green), while a total of 19 have specific gravities that fall significantly above or below the nephrite range (gram weight and specific gravity shown in red). Note that the entire group of 54 pieces, before any are sold, is being offered for $1500 plus shipping, but each piece identified as nephrite through its specific graviy can be purchased individually at the price shown in blue (plus shipping) next to the piece of interest. Don’t hesitate to ask should you have any questions. Each piece comes with a small display card, a Parke bio, and a map of the state outlining the jade fields area. | |||||||||||||||
