| This 18 ¾” tall seated nude male figure (PES26) has the image and powerful stature of an athlete ready for the contest. With hands placed firmly on his knees, and an intense focused stare directed at his opponent, I almost expect to see him suddenly come out of his seated stance in an explosive launch! Attributed to the Jalisco horizon of West Mexico, dating c.300BC-300AD, and perhaps the crowning piece in the collection of the late Brian Safe, this impressive figure has been glued together with some restoration. Even with fairly heavy pigment loss, this remarkable figure cannot help but capture a viewer’s attention. The figure comes with a small display card, a biographical sketch about the former owner, a map of Mexico highlighting the Jalisco area, and our certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
