Ribbed Zoomorphic Censer With Handle, Colima
This relatively large, handled, open-based ceramic censer (LLL719), with its ribbed or plated body, appears to represent an armadillo. 9 ¼” in length, the censer is in overall very good condtition with no restoration and only the tip of its tail (located just behind the handle) missing. A few minor chips and a small amount of pigment loss are also noted. Attributed to the Pre-Classic Colima horizon, the censer is dated c.300BC-200AD. Found by the late Lynn Langdon in the mid-20th century, this burnished ceramic piece comes with a small display card, a brief biographical sketch about Langdon, a map of Mexico highlighting the Colima area, and our certiifcate guaranteeing authentictiy. NOTE: if you would like to view a large number of our various listings, and at the same time limit your browsing, try our ‘TWELVE different items on a single page format’ by simply spelling out the word TWELVE in the search box.
