| This 5” tall ceramic whistle (RFM57) is attributed to the Classic Maya dating c.300-900AD. In overall good condition with some damage to to the sides and an abraded beak, the image may represent a warrior or dancer wearing a bird’s head mask. The whistle emits a pleasing note when lightly blown and stands a little awry, easily tipping with fairly light touch. A glyph-like symbol can be seen in the oval panel just above its head. From the local collection of one of the founders of the Rocky Mountain Institute of Pre-Columbian Studies, the whistle comes with a small display card, a map of Mexico highlighting the Mayan area, and our certificate guaranteeing that the piece is authentic. You can view all of the pieces from this fine consigned collection (recently considered by the Peabody Museum for acquisition, and by Sotheby’s for auction) by entering the letters RFM into the search link on this or any other page of our catalog. NOTE: if you would also like to view a large number of our various other listings, and at the same time limit your browsing time, try our ‘TWELVE different items on a single page format’ by simply spelling out the word TWELVE in the search box. That will quickly bring up all of our listings that have twelve different items on a page, each individually priced! | ||||||||||
