| This 15 ½” tall Protoclassic warrior figurine (RFM40) dates c.100BC-250AD and is attributed to the Jalisco group of West Mexico. The powerful, armor-protected sentinel stands with eyes intently focused to the front while both hands tightly grasp his hefty spear. This classic Ameca style image, from the collection of one of the founders of the now abandoned Rocky Mountain Institute of Pre-Columbian Studies, was appraised in the 1990s by local registered art appraiser Jack Kunin at a value 1/3 higher than the listed asking price. Even with some restoration, a spear that is glued in two places and at this time not attached to the figure where it should be just below its hands, and a goodly amount of surface wear, it is impossible to deny the powerful impact of this figure. It comes with a small display card, a map of west Mexico highlighting the Jalisco area, and our certificate guraranteeing authenticity. And watch for the additional pieces that will soon be listed under the prefix RFM coming up from this newly consigned large collection.
