| This matched pair of brain-tanned beaded cuffs (TEH.F29.2) was removed from a decorative frame put together by the late Chester Howard. Dating from the 1880-1900 period, the beadwork, though somewhat stained from use, is in excellent condition. The gauntlets from which the cuffs were salvaged were undoubtedly worn out from use, and the gloves subsequently trimmed carefully from the cuffs. The cuffs measure 7 ¼” in length and 7 ¼” across their widest part (not counting the fringe). The bold geometric design presents a powerful image. The backs of the cuffs show light areas and some residue from the application of spots and lines of glue that Howard used to mount them to the frame. A fine example of the type, the cuffs come with a small display card, a biographical write-up about Howard, and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
