| From the estate of the late Chester Howard, this rather spectacular beaded floral strip or belt (TEH.F8.3) measures 30 ½” x 4 ½”. Dated to the mid 20th century, Howard noted that the belt was either Crow or Northern Cheyenne. Due to the initials ‘MS’ shown in cobalt beads, it is believed that the belt may either have been made under contract for a specific party, or that the initials were for the name of the Native American who made the belt. The back of the belt is canvas with a single irregular strip of blue and white fabric perhaps sewn over a gap. A few small spots of dried glue remain on the canvas where Howard had applied them to mount the belt in a decorative frame. In overall very good condition with only a dozen or so missing white beads at the end of one row, the beautifully bold and colorful belt comes with a small display card, a biographical write-up about Howard, and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
