| This large and colorful beaded bag (TEH.F6.2) is from the Yakima tribe of Washington. Measuring 10” x 12” in size (not counting fringes or thong handles), the Plateau bag dates into the mid-20th century and was once glued into a decorative frame by its owner, the late Chester Howard. In overall very good condition with a bold floral design on a deep yellow field near which two butterflies pose to alight, there are a few light stains on the beadwork. The supple hide back of the bag has some mildly discolored and slightly stiff areas where the glue that held it in the frame was applied. A small area on the back of the bag along its lower right edge is slightly pulled and separated but does not appear to be damaged. The inside of the bag is lined with a blue and white checked cloth. A few light spots on the thong handles resulted when removing adhered glue. This Native American made, dramatically designed bag comes with a small display card, a biographical write-up about Howard, and our certificate guaranteeing authenticity. We’re pleased to announce that we’ll be adding many more items from this great and diverse collection including: Native American textiles, beadwork, pottery; Pre-Columbian pottery, artifacts, beads, figurines; some 2700+ merchant, Indian Trading, Military, Hacienda tokens; a great assortment of picturesque and decorative artifact frames that Howard had professionally constructed to house many of his treasures; and much more.
