TWELVE PRE-COLUMBIAN GROOVED AXES, W. MEXICO
The twelve Pre-Columbian stone axes in this group (LLL293, LLL304, LLL734, LLL777, LLL780, LLL781, LLL787, LLL789, LLL790, LLL803, LLL804 and LLL816) were all found in West Mexico in the mid-20th century by the late Lynn Langdon. Each axe is individually described on its photo. Dating broadly from the Pre-Classic to the Post-Classic Periods, the ages shown are rough estimates only. Mostly made from basalt, the axes have varying degrees of polish and wear. Each photo shows front and back of one axe, and is noted first with its Inventory number in brackets, followed by a brief description, a grade determination (1-10 with 10 being tops), the area in which that axe was found, a cultural affiliation when known, an age estimate, its length in inches, condition remarks, basic stone type, and finally the price. Select or ask any question by referring first to the Trocadero Number on this page, and then the Inventory Number shown on the given photograph. Any that have been sold will be so-marked on the appropriate photo. A purchase comes with a small display card, a biographical sketch about the collector Langdon, a map of Mexico highlighting the general area in which the axes were found, and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
