| Possibly an ornament for a crown, headband, or some other article of clothing, this 5 ¾” long, decorated copper flexible strip (AK138) is attributed to the Chimu horizon of Peru, c.1000-1400AD. Heavily patinated and coated with mineral salts, but in overall fairly good condition, the top of the strip has spiral decorations and a movable concave disk or bead, some ½ of which has corroded away. A bit of weathered textile fragment appears to have been attached to the strip at one time, but is now loose. From an old collection, the ornament is presented in a 6” x 8” glass-fronted frame that comes with a map of Peru highlighting the Chimu area, and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity. | ||||||
