COLORFUL PRE-COLUMBIAN CELT, WEST MEXICO

This polished, dark greenish black basalt, Precolumbian petaloid celt, or ungrooved axe (LLL782) is 2 7/8” long and ¾” thick. Brightened with large patches of an ivory colored and slightly fibrous included mineral, its finished surface is attractively different than most of its type. In overall fairly good condition with a usage chunk out of one corner along its bit edge, the late Lynn Langdon found the celt in the Nayarit area of west Mexico in the mid-20th century. It is dated c.300BC-1300AD and comes with a small display card, a write-up about Langdon, a map of Mexico on which the Nayarit area has been highlighted, and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
