Polished Stone Ear Spool, West Mexico
Classically shaped and finished with a moderately high polish, this slightly tapered stone ear spool (LLL814) was found in west Mexico in the mid-20th century. In excellent condition, and a fine example of the type, the spool measures 1 3/8” in height, and just over 1 1/8” across its top. Made from black basalt, and dated c.300B-600AD, the spool is attributed to the Nayarit horizon. From the collection of the late Lynn Langdon, the spool comes with a small display card, a write-up about Langdon, a map of west Mexico with the area of Nayarit highlighted, and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
