PRE-COLUMBIAN GREENSTONE EAR FLARE, W. MEXICO
This intact and undamaged example of a Pre-Columbian ear flare (LLL731R4N2A) was found in west Mexico in the mid-20th century by the late Lynn Langdon. Attributed to the Nayarit group and dating c.300BC-200AD, the flare was made from relatively soft, pale greenish gray stone and is 1 ¾” wide and 1 1/8” tall. The surface of the stone is moderately stained and the once polished finish a little rough from exposure to weathering and ground waters. A good ‘type’ piece that comes with a small display card, a biographical sketch about Langdon, and a map of west Mexico highlighting the area in which the piece was found.
