| Unmistakably of the Sinu style, this matched pair of heavy gold earrings (103.42HD) is from the Gulf of Uruba area of Colombia and dates c.400-1600AD. Just over 2 ¾” in width and made in Precolumbian times using the cire perdue technique (lost wax casting), the earrings are in overall very good condition (one of them has been slightly bent at a corner and a few of the gold rings are cracked, but without any significant weakening of the piece). This spectacular set could be adapted for contemporary use, but would probably be heavier than most would want to endure. In addition to making a fine type set for the collector of ancient jewelry and/or Precolumbian gold, the earrings could be adapted for individual use as stunning contemporary pendants. The earrings come with a small display card, a map of Colombia highlighting both the Gulf of Uruba and the Sinu areas, and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity. | ||||||||
