| 10 ½” in height and modeled in the round, this stone carving (AXH1462) was found in Vera Cruz and was attributed by its finder, the late Dr. Allen Heflin, to the Huasteca dating c.900-1300AD. With somewhat muted features, resulting both from the fashion in which it was made and from subsequent weathering, the crested head may be a representation of the ever-popular wind god. Made from indurated, iron-stained volcaniclastic material, it is in overall very good condition with no significant damage. The egg-shaped base is somewhat smoothed causing speculation that it could have had some use as a pestle. As it will not stay upright without support, a stand will have to be made to hold it in a vertical position. It comes with a small display card, a write-up about Heflin and his collection, a map of Mexico highlighting the Vera Cruz area, and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity. | ||||||||
