| 3 ¾” tall and marked on its outer surface in black ink with the words ‘Cuautitlan, Mex 6/8/60 Aztec’, this well-preserved Aztec clay mold (AXH1453R1N1) is from the Dr. Allen Heflin collection and dates c.1300-1500AD. The mold produces the image of a standing male figure wearing ear spools and a funky headdress, and holding an indistinguishable object in his hands at his waistline. HD Enterprises made the silvery cast using aluminized silicone rubber after a releasing agent was sprayed into the mold. In overall very good condition, there is a small chip on the outside bottom of the mold next to the figure’s left foot that does not impair the cast. This interesting relic from one of the best provenanced collections to appear on the market in years comes with a small display card, a write-up about Heflin, a map of the Valley of Mexico showing the extent of the great lakes that filled it at the time of the Spanish Conquest (on which Cuautitlan is highlighted), and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity. | ||||||||
