Standing unassisted on her slightly arched feet, and staring ahead with wide almond-shaped eyes, her well formed and possibly filed teeth are distinctly visible in her slightly opened mouth. The finely detailed and interesting design on the beveled under side of this 3" tall and 4 3/8" wide silver vessel (MAB 224) depicts the repeated image of a seated Peruvian lord drinking from a cup, and standing birds around its cone-shaped stem. This 12” tall ‘smiling face’ figural whistle (TEH.F50.4) is attributed to the Veracruz horizon along the Gulf Coast area of Mexico dating into the Late Classic Period, c.550-950AD.
