This hand-carved wood figurine (BB59) depicts a mother completely covered with children. Marked on the base ‘Kenya’, it is believed to be from the Makonde tribe from Tanganyika, or perhaps a copy from one of the tribes in Kenya. Possibly ebony, but appears to be heavily stained and may have been made from some other hardwood type. This early 19th century, dated, hand painted, colorful Indian lithograph (DDG49) is mounted in an attractive, mid 20th century decorated wood frame measuring 21” x 27”.
