The intaglio, depicting a Roman youth, is made up of a black and white opaque glass ‘sandwich’. The intaglio is ½” long, and the ring a diminutive size 1. Not a wearable piece, the ring is in overall fairly good relic condition with a little splitting and bending around the bezel area. In overall very good condition, the glass is filled with bubbles, and a bit of mud still clings to its surface. Found in Lebanon, it dates into the Roman Period, c.100BC-100AD. Just short of 7/8” in length, an embossed image on the front may represent an animal, but it’s impossible to be sure. In overall good condition, the surface of the pitted, bubbly glass has fine iridescence from burial. The amulet comes with a small display card and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
