$1650.00

Measuring 5 1/8” in height, this perforated axe god celt (VPW1) is attributed to the Guanacaste-Nicoya region of Costa Rica and is dated c.300BC-500AD. Determined to be jadeite through a specific gravity test result of 3.31 and a spot refractive index of 1.66, the light green, front-polished beauty is from a private, northeastern collection. Purchased by my consigner from Howard Rose’s Arte Primitivo Gallery in New York City in June 2001, the celt is in overall very good condition with only a fe ...click for details

$2500.00

This hollow, 9” tall, Pre-Columbian figurine (LLL723) is an attractive representation of a bird-masked and feathered eagle dancer holding a pair of rattles in his left hand, and an unidentified, crescent-shaped object in his right. Found in west Mexico by the late Lynn Langdon in the mid-20th century, the figure is attributed to the Colima horizon dating c.300BC-300AD. An x-ray of the figure indicates some repair, but no significant restoration. In otherwise very good condition, though it is fai ...click for details

Positioned at its center is a 1” tall greenstone pendant that represents an anthropomorphic figure kneeling in a position of prayer or obeisance. 3 ¾” tall and marked on its outer surface in black ink with the words ‘Cuautitlan, Mex 6/8/60 Aztec’, this well-preserved Aztec clay mold (AXH1453R1N1) is from the Dr. Allen Heflin collection and dates c.1300-1500AD. The mold produces the image of a standing male figure wearing ear spools and a funky headdress, and holding an indistinguishable object in his hands at his waistline. $225.00

This stone animal head (LLL785), apparently fashioned to represent a tapir, was once at the back or poll end of a fine effigy axe. Broken across the shallow hafting groove that encircled the axe, the head has no other significant damage and by itself is a good example of the skilled Pre-Columbian stone-worker’s art. Measuring 2 ¾” in length, and 1 5/8” in height at the head, the axe is attributed to the Colima horizon of west Mexico dating c.300BC-200AD. Made from grayish green volcanic rock, th ...click for details

$1500.00

This incredibly well preserved set of Pre-Columbian wood ear plugs (LFG442), on which the geometrically decorated shell and dark greenstone elements are each held in place with an almost invisible touch of contemporary glue, is attributed to the Moche horizon of Peru, c.100-800AD. Not wearable today due to the fragile nature of the wood that has dried and shrunk through the many centuries of entombment, there are certainly few other such pairs that have survived this well.
