Each of the twelve individually priced prehistoric Indian artifacts in this group (AXH66.4, 5, 8, 10, 13, 21, 25, 26, 34, 36, 41, and 44) were once attached to a frame with Elmer’s glue that had been assembled from finds in Louisiana made by the late Dr. Allen Heflin. This group of twelve individually priced prehistoric Indian pots (JHL35, 38, 39, 158, 159, 160, 162, 164, 168, 170, 178 and 185) are all from the estate of the late Gene Lang of Denver. Believed to be from the Williams Ranch collection, south of Quemado, New Mexico, Lang purchased the pots to restore them but was not able to complete the job. Though exhibiting a strong ‘polychrome’ appearance, this handsome, 7 ¼” tall, geometrically designed prehistoric Native American pot (RLK5) started off as a Mimbres black-on-white canteen dating c.975-1150AD, but when introduced into the ancient firing kiln, the black mineral paint oxidized resulting in the attractive brownish red variegations that appear in the contrasting black field.
