$450.00

Measuring 23” in length, this heavy carved wood staff handle (TF97.19) displays at its top a seated, long-faced, and rather gaunt-looking male with a tumpline around his brow holding a small burden on his back. Attributed to the Paramonga of Peru, c.1100-1400AD, this may have been the burden-carrier’s walking stick and the image on top, a depiction of how he probably felt at the end of a long walk carrying his burden. Well weathered and patinated with some light splitting from dehydration, this ...click for details

$450.00

Measuring 6 ¾” in height and in overall very good condition, this wide-necked jar (CMK104) is from the collection of the late Mike Kastner of Denver, once owner and operator of the Primitive Folk Art Laboratory. Identified as a Bell Plain style from the Mississippian group and dating c.1000-1600AD, the jar is from Arkansas. In addition to a couple of small rim chips, the neck of the jar may have had a light amount of expert restoration (for which Mike was known), but it’s very difficult see or t ...click for details

$750.00

This attractively decorated polychrome tripod bowl (RFM7) measures 7 ¼” across and is attributed to the Guanacaste Nicoya area of Costa Rica dating c.1000-1500AD. Glued together from some eight pieces, the sides of the bowl have a geometrically stylized depiction of what may represent a crab with part of the design exhibiting a pair of eyes and a mouth. The egg-shaped hollow legs are the rattle type. In spite of rather amateurish restoration, some rim chips, and minor paint loss, the bowl is qui ...click for details

The 12 Precolumbian gold nose ornaments in this group (93.303C-DHD, 93.305BHD, MAX 59, 62, 66, 71, 72, 74, 77, 78 and 79) are all from the Salinar culture of Peru dating c.400-200BC. Made from hammered sheet gold testing at approximately 18K using calibrated needle and acids from a jeweler’s gold testing kit, the ornaments were formed by stone-cutting them out of the relatively thin alloyed precious metal. The ornaments in this interesting group are similar, but none are identical. Here’s an opp ...click for details

All twelve of the stone and shell Pre-Columbian artifacts individually illustrated and priced in this group (TEH.F47.1-11 and TEH.F50.3) were taken out of a shadow-box frame assembled by the late Chester Howard, founder of the Colorado Mineral Society. Howard marked the frame with the word ‘Guerrero’. Included in the group are Mezcala anthropomorphic stone figures, a couple of shell pieces of jewelry (these may be Colima in origin), and three individual greenstone ear flares. $900.00

Small and rare, this miniature prehistoric Indian bowl (GLC489) is from the collection of the late Gene Lang of Denver. With small mouth opening, large flanged lip, and suspension holes, Lang felt that this may have been used as an ‘ink’ or pigment jar. He typed it as a Tibera Black-on-White dating c.1440-1675AD into the Proto-Historic period. Intact with absolutely no repairs or repaint, this fascinating 1 ¾” tall jar comes with a small display card, an acrylic ring upon which to set it, a rele ...click for details

This unusual and attractively styled necklace (PBF204) is made up of a mixture of larger, slightly graduated, cream-colored Pre-Columbian stone beads each of which has the general appearance of the truncated top of an ice cream cone (i.e., 2/3 of the lower part of the cone is missing), separated by small disk-shaped spacer beads of the same material. From the center of the necklace is suspended a 15/16” long, tapered and pointed transparent to slightly milky quartz pendant that was likely believ ...click for details

$1500.00

This 9 ¼” tall Pre-Columbian figural jar (LLL707) was found in west Mexico in the mid-20th century. From the estate of the late Lynn Langdon, the jar is intact with minor dings, though still coated with a fair amount of mud. An x-ray confirms the surface indications. The naked lady wears a beaded necklace, ear spools, a nose ornament, and has a group of nubbins on her left front arm probably representing decorative tattooing. A few of the necklace beads are missing, one of her brows is dinged, a ...click for details

Here's the last of the five points we have on consignment from the Rhonda Beck collection (RXB16). Although an attached tag has the notation "Cobb's" (and the inked words "Pope Co ILL" on the side of the blade itself), I believe this is an un-notched pre-form of the Tennessee River type due to the absence of the Cobb's characteristically beveled edges. The Tennessee River is an Early Archaic point dating c.7000-4000BC. Measuring 7" in length and, again, a Bec ...click for details
