$1200.00

Found in West Mexico in the mid-20th century by the late Lynn Langdon, this 7 ˝” long stone animal (LLL1024), looking very much like a bear or buffalo, may have been used as a bark beater, or perhaps as a grinding tool. The bark beater interpretation is supported by the parallel grooves on its somewhat rounded back, but there’s no clear evidence on what appears to be a grinding surface that it was ever used to grind. Whatever its use, the quadruped was attributed by Langdon to the Pre-Classic Co ...click for details

$1500.00 (Will Consider Offer)

Too heavy to wear in today's decorator-conscious environment, this 4 3/4" tall cream-colored stone head (CLP 26) shows convincing evidence of its age in with the trail-like etching visible on its still muddy back. Unattributed and from the Claudia Proto West Mexican collection, it has Mayan characteristics and probably dates into the late Classic Period, c.600-900AD. Graded at a 7 (out of 10) due to the damage on its left ear, the stone appears to be an albitite that, on the whole, has ...click for details

$5,625.00

This massive, 18” tall male figurine (BB14) rests a large ball against his right shoulder while holding it in his cupped right hand. Intently staring ahead in preparation to throw the ball, he is decorated with elaborate ear ornaments, a nose ring, and a band around his neck representing a necklace. Standing naked, his powerful body striped with what probably represents tattooing, and with plaited hair, the figure is attributed to the Nayarit horizon of west Mexico dating c.300BC-300AD. Measuring 2 3/4" long from the tip of its tail to the end of its slender beak, this stunning golden relic (EB.1005) of the ancient Pre-Columbian Sinu horizon of Colombia faithfully depicts the always popular hummingbird, an image noted in many examples of worldwide prehistoric art.
