What a sweet little lady! Measuring a mere 1 3/8” in height, this hand-modeled miniature female figurine (AXH1403R3N4) was found at the site of Cuautitlan by the late Dr. Allen Heflin. Wearing ear spools, and a headdress with a crescent-shaped object on its top, this rare miniature dates into the unattributed Preclassic Period, c.1200-900BC. In overall very good condition, her little nose is slightly dinged and there are some patches of caliche or mud filling some of the surface depressions...

All from the collection of research anthropologist and former Southwestern primitive arts dealer, Lorenzo Gordon Fritz, this intriguing and magical assortment of native-made items (LFG 430, 431, 435, 440, 457, 473, 477, 480, 481, 491, 492 and 498) date from the Late Inca Period up to the early 20th century...

This highly burnished red ware melon jar (CLP 1) is one of my favorite items from Claudia Proto's collection of West Mexican Pre-Columbian art. 8" wide and 6 1/4" tall, it simply bubbles with fun and style in spite of the its obviously damaged condition ( in our opinion, it still deserves a quality rank of '7', with 10 being the tops). Assigned to the Colima horizon dating c,100-300AD, it suffers a bruised nose and a rim that is missing a couple of chunks with some glue to hold another in place...

This 7 ¼” finely marked black-on-orange Pre-Columbian vessel (JDR.2) is attributed to the Lambayeque horizon of the north coast of Peru. Dating c.800-1300AD, the handled jar is 4 ¼” in diameter and has a 3” tall spout, below which clinging to the side of the jar is a crouched monkey. In overall good condition (I’d rank it a 7), it has been partially restored and the monkey replaced and rebuilt where damaged...

This fascinating Pre-Columbian bead necklace (111.5HD), made up of beads found in the north coast of Peru and assembled by the Orlandini Museum that operated in Lima during the mid-20th century (their descriptive paper on others from the collection is dated August 1955), is probably Moche in origin, c.100-800AD. From the collection of Lorenzo Fritz, it was purchased by him in the US decades ago and recently entered our inventory due to a trade...

This semi-polished, mottled light gray and green stone bird pendant (PBF211) was found in the shaft tomb region of southern Colombia close to the border of Ecuador and is attributed to the Narino Capuli period, c.900-1400AD. Measuring 1 7/8” in length from the tip of its toucan-like beak to the tip of its rounded tail, it could easily be mistaken as jade, but with a measured specific gravity of 2.78, it is too light to be so identified...

This spectacular 1 ½” long, hollow Pre-Columbian 10.6 karat gold tumbaga pendant (BXS.1) depicts a fiercely snarling dragon-like creature with a long-beaked bird’s head tail, lying on its chest and ready to pounce. Undoubtedly a symbol of power and strength, it is attributed to the Sinu or Tairona cultural horizon of Colombia, dated c.800-1500AD. Acquired through a documented trade with the former Emerald World and Gold Museum of Orlando, Florida in 1985 prior to the time Colombia signed th...
