On Hold
If you’re familiar with the Pre-Columbian Calima gold work of Colombia, you’ll recognize and appreciate another marvelous zoomorphic depiction of their figural artistry in this armadillo pendant (PBF209) dating c.100-1600AD. Even though measuring a diminutive 1” in length, the details noted on this ancient lost wax casting leave no doubt as to what its native creator meant it to represent...

$25,000.00
Weighing a massive 73.4 grams, this 1 11/16” tall Precolumbian 22K gold bell (100.81HD) is attributed to the Veraguas horizon of Panama, c.500-1200AD. Still retaining its original loose clapper, the toucan-topped bell renders a pleasing though non-resonating tinkling sound. The twin birds represent a theme of dualism frequently noted in Precolumbian art...

$750.00
10 ½” in height and modeled in the round, this stone carving (AXH1462) was found in Vera Cruz and was attributed by its finder, the late Dr. Allen Heflin, to the Huasteca dating c.900-1300AD. With somewhat muted features, resulting both from the fashion in which it was made and from subsequent weathering, the crested head may be a representation of the ever-popular wind god...

This group of twelve individually priced prehistoric Indian pots (JHL6, 7, 17, 18, 19, 30, 41, 42, 48, 49, 52 and 65) are all from the estate of the late Gene Lang of Denver. Believed to be from the Williams Ranch collection, south of Quemado, New Mexico, Lang purchased the pots to restore them but was not able to complete the job. Most have been simply glued together with little restoration, and are usually missing a few shards...

This highly burnished red ware melon jar (CLP 1) is one of my favorite items from Claudia Proto's collection of West Mexican Pre-Columbian art. 8" wide and 6 1/4" tall, it simply bubbles with fun and style in spite of the its obviously damaged condition ( in our opinion, it still deserves a quality rank of '7', with 10 being the tops). Assigned to the Colima horizon dating c,100-300AD, it suffers a bruised nose and a rim that is missing a couple of chunks with some glue to hold another in place...

Most have specific provenance, but a few have no information. New World areas include Panama, El Salvador and probably the western U.S. Grades range from 3 to 9 on a 1-10 scale basis with most of them on the high side from 7 to 9...
